A DROWNING FATALITY. ST HELEN’S,
Saturday The many friends of the late Mr Joseph Treloggen, sen. of St Helens will be shocked to hear of his death through drowning. The deceased has been suffering from ill health for some time, and on Monday went for a stroll down towards Tucker's farm, on the road to which he was met by Mr Tucker, of Boat Harbour. As he did not return by tea time one of his sons went down the road to meet him. Failing to find him an alarm was raised and willing friends and relatives searched the bush the whole of Monday night and on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, both night and day. The River George was systematically dragged but it was not until Thursday afternoon that Messrs. Treloggen and Titmus discovered the deceased's hat and a boot on the bank of the river, four miles up from deceased's home. The body was shortly afterwards discovered. It is presumed that deceased had been making an attempt to ford the river and had slipped on the stones and been washed away by the current. Mr. Treloggen was 55 years old. An inquest was held yesterday when a verdict of found drowned was returned. The funeral took place today and was largely attended.
